EAJP Updates: June 10, 2024
Aligned Alumni,
Emerson Alumni for Justice in Palestine (EAJP) has been working as a collective for over a month, and as momentum grows, we think it’s important to share more information on our plans, projects and actions.
ALUMNI WEEKEND ACTIONS
Last week at Alumni Weekend, a group of EAJP members organized a walkout from Emerson’s “Meet Me at the Wall” event, as well as an alternative alumni gathering to Emerson's Alumni Weekend to offer alumni a space to connect with each other and the larger movement. With our information packets and prepared statements, we informed other alumni, the administration and guests about the organizing efforts of Emerson Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Emerson Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine (FSJP), and the violent responses from Emerson, the police and the City.
For months, SJP and FSJP have raised awareness of Israeli settler colonialism, ethnic cleansing, genocidal policies and actions, and everyday violence against Palestinians. As we gathered in the 2B alleyway, we reflected on the power of where we stood: the same place where SJP established their solidarity encampment; the same place where police destroyed that encampment and arrested over 100 people. Together, we purposefully constructed a community space filled with food and poetry. We centered building collective power over funneling money into an institution that is complicit in genocide. Learn more about Emerson’s repression of student activism through the materials we distributed at Alumni Weekend.
HOW TO SUPPORT
Emerson has failed to meet the seven original proposals and five demands of ESJP and the Emerson College Student Union (ECSU), nor have they meaningfully engaged with student activists. While our community heals, we continue to push the demands at the core of their peaceful protests: that Emerson College must disclose, divest, and publicly call for an immediate ceasefire.
Withhold all donations and divest from any alumni events planned by the administration. We see Emerson’s alumni events for what they are: a money grab from an institution that invested in genocide.
Until Emerson lives up to its mission and values, give your support where it truly matters, and donate to support Palestinian refugees through our UNRWA fundraiser.
Please spread the word. Share our fundraiser with other alumni, contribute what you can, and email the Emerson administration to let them know where your dollars are going instead!
